Super Smash Bros Brawl dissection: Ike

Ike is a character in Super Smash Bros Brawl that comes from the Fire Emblem game series that possesses great strength and some great moves which make him super powerful and an effective character to use. I tend to use him quite a bit actually. Pretty much every move he performs is extremely powerful, even his standard "A" attacks send other fighters flying. Of course, with a fighting game like this there has to be a fair amount of balance, so Ike even though Ike has great power, he is very slow. He also can't jump that high and doesn't dodge roll very far. Even so, he is still effective because his sword has a fair amount of reach to it and, even if he can't catch those speedy fighters like Fox or Sonic, he can still hit them. In the air, he doesn't jump all that high or far, but his attacks are just as good if not better than on the ground. His special moves also pack a punch. His standard "B" attack sees him holding his sword above his head and charging it with fire. When he slams it back down, it has a high damage small radius blast around him. But beware, charge it for too long and you damage yourself. His side "B" is another charge attack, only this time he dashes forward and slices his opponent. The longer you charge it, the further he goes. This can also make do as a horizontal recovery attack if you are too far away from the platform to do his up "B" attack. Ike performs his signature attack: the Aether, a move where Ike throws his sword upwards then jumps up to catch it and then plummets back down, slamming his sword into the earth. If anyone is caught in the move, they follow the same movement as the sword. This is his vertical recovery move, but has very little horizontal movement. His down "B" is a counter attack. Similar to that of Lucario and Marth's, this move needs to be time right otherwise you'll be a sitting duck. Basically, if Ike counters just at the right time, he takes the blow on his sword and swings it back at his opponent, dealing roughly the same damage as the move he blocked. The counter doesn't block Final Smashes. Speaking of which, Ike's final smash is a move powerful version of the Aether. He swings his sword and if it connects with someone, he throws them up into the air and hammers on them over and over with his fiery sword. Eventually, he slams it down with a huge explosion. Of course, if he misses the swing at the start of the move, then you've just wasted a smash ball. In conclusion, Ike is a great fighter to SSBB and a great addition to the series that everybody loves.

Ohh Terfle...

I may have found something that you... may enjoy. Namely: PIKMIN 3! ZOMG!!!!
The original Pikmin games were released on the gamecube, but were remade for the Wii with better graphics and new play controls. They worked as far as games with new play controls went, but they were still old games remade for a generation which may have missed out on the originals. But now... a completely new installment of the series has been announced by Shegeru Miyamoto himself! Epic!

nooooooooooooooooo!

nooooooooooooooooooo! Why? Why? I just found out that the fifth and supposedly final installment of one of my favourite game series ever, Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracles will be coming out on 3ds not ds, 3ds. Damn. This means that Im going to need to get a 3ds, which will be no small task. At least the fourth one will still be coming out on regular ds, but still. Why did they have to make it on 3ds, I was fine with the way that it was on regular Ds. Sad face.

Dilemma!

In every gamer's life there comes a choice. A choice between games. You know you can't have both but you want them oh, so much. My time has come to make that choice. The choice is between two of the best FPS' to hit the Wii ever. Goldeneye 007 Wii and the Metroid Prime Trilogy. Both look fantastic, but there can only be one!

Metroid Other M

I recently played the game metroid other m, a game that and I've heard quite a lot of hate for. I thought that it was great game, and one of the things that annoys me a lot about the haters for this game is that they all said either 1. Samus was too blaby, well apart from the intro and end there is barely any cutscenes of dialog. 2. Samus's voice acting was bad, well this is more of a matter of opinion but I think tha her voice suited her fine, as she was raised by aliens, was trained to be a soldier and is going through post traumatic stress. And 3. you never get to roam, its way too linear. After the credits there is not only an extra bit of the storyline for you to do, but you also get to roam to your hearts content. Anyway I thought that this game was great because it had amazing graphics, an interesting storyline and really fun gameplay.

What I found fun about it was that you had completely no idea what was going to happen next, you could just be walking around, then a giant lava monster jumps out and tries to kill you. You then of course start fighting it and begin to think, "im gonna beat it!". Then reality kicks in and you end up in this position with you falling to your doom and the monster with its jaws wide open. The boss battles arent too short or too easy, which I found nice. A feature of it that I found really useful was the last second dodge. This was really useful, but not that easy to use. You need perfect timing for it to work but if it does you can dodge all sorts of things.
This can be useful for when giant purple lizard fall from the sky. I thought this game was very good, but of course that is my opinion and it isnt the same as everybody elses. So if you do hate this game then I dont really need to know.

Phantom Ganon

Just beat Phantom Ganondorf in Ocarina of time. Reminded me of Twilight Princess in that he is basically Ganon's puppet Zelda and Dark beast Ganon combined. Tried to hit him with Biggoron's sword, but he flew away whenever I tried. Had to use the Master Sword.

Super Mario 64 DS stuff

A while ago, I played a lot of Super Mario 64 DS and enjoyed it a lot, but then I played Galaxy...
Surely, both Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 will go down as not just a couple of great Wii games, but two of the best games in video game history! They are absolutely masterful in many respects. Mostly in the level variety and level design. There are also some neat additions to the Mario series: like being able to Spin. If you shot yourself in the wrong direction, or need a bit more of a boost, all you have to do is make one tiny flick of the Wii remote, and it can give you just what you need to survive. But then I went back and played a bit more Super Mario 64 on the DS, and noticed a few things about the game I didn't like. The main thing being the camera. It's dreadful at best. It is often blocked by objects, obscuring your view and adding a lot more guesswork about your depth perception. So many times I would leap through the sky and miss what I was aiming for because I miscalculated the depth and positioning of the object. The second was the design and direction of the levels. When you choose a star to go for, the name of the star gives you a clue about where ti go, but is often very vague, especially in the later levels. And in Galaxy, the levels would change completely so you would know where to go to get the star. This didn't make obtaining the star easy, but at lest you knew where to go. In 64 DS, the levels remained the same almost every time, making finding out where you need to be very hard. And some of the levels are just repeats. In one level, you have to climb the top of this tower to fight the Whomp King and get the star. In the next level, you had to climb the tower same way, but instead of fighting a boss, all you did was have to climb a pole... fun :-(
My final complaint of the day is a small one, but I hate it nonetheless. When you want to turn around 360 degrees, your character doesn't turn on the spot, he actually has to walk around in a circle to be facing the other direction. This killed me some many times I almost rage quit...actually I did rage quit. If your looking for a game to by for the DS or Wii, Super Mario 64 DS isn't a bad choice, but it can be tough to get over these frustrations.
