Skyward Sword versus Ocarina of Time

Back in the day, the best game hands down was was The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. According to the critics, it still is. it is possible that no other game will ever triumph over that game. Skyward Sword might have if ONE CRANKY REVIEWER HADN'T GIVEN IT A FREAKING 7.5!!!
But anyway, the two games have been compared often and some say that Skyward Sword bests the almighty OOT. But does it?

Grahpics: Out of the question. There is actually no way to compare the graphics seeing as they're from two different eras. It wouldn't be fair on Ocarina of Time

Story: The story in Ocarina was somewhat lacking, despite what many will say. Basically, you go and fight monsters because a giant tree and an annoying fairy tell you to. Eventually, you find out that the world is in peril and you must save it by collecting some rocks so you can defeat the evil king Ganondorf. Yeah.
The story in Skyward Sword is much better. It explains the reason for Skyloft and the Hyrule. It sets up great character relationships and in general, makes you care more for the characters and even fight for them. You always know why you are doing what you're doing and you never truly forget why you're fighting.

Extras: In Ocarina of Time, you get several minigames, all of which are fun. But after you beat them once, the rewards aren't enough to bring you back. In Skyward Sword, the minigames are generally more fun and yield greater rewards. There are also collectable which you search for. IN OOT, you search for the Golden Skulltalas. They are hard to find and you have no idea how to get them. But if you do find all 150 of them, you get great rewards. In Skyward, you find two types of collectables: the Gratitude crystals and the Goddess cubes. These together are slightly more numerous than the spiders and are more rewarding to find. Every Goddess cube has something of good value. Some things like the Potion medal can only be found in Goddess Cubes while others like 100 rupees is just a nice thing to have.

Overworld: Ocarina of time has a fairly large one, but the unfortunate thing is that at first you don't have anything to travel on. It's a long walk. On the plus side, the world has many secrets hidden away and they are all waiting for you to find them. Skyward Sword has some islands that float above clouds, but there are only a few. Beneath the clouds are three different privinces. Each of them will eventually open more areas the longer you play, but have less secrets. Most of the discovery here will be done in a metroid-esque fashion where you return to places where you've already been and find new things.

Combat: The combat in Ocarina of Time revolves around hitting the right button at the right time. You must time your strike so that you kit the spider when it's back is turned. You must time your strike to defeat the Stalfos and wait for it to lower it's guard. You must time your attack so that you hit the Parasite Queen in the eye at the right time. Skyward Sword is more about positioning and blocking while still keeping the timing in tack. Blocking is no longer a natural thing, instead you have to time it right to reflect the move and so that your shield doesn't take damage. You have to hit the place where the bad guys drop their guard otherwise you will be blocked and in some cases, counter attacked.

Design: Ocarina of Time will let you find the temples in your own time, in your own way, in your own clothes. You'll have to search the amazingly amazing land of Hyrule to find and uncover the deadly mysteries of these temples. You'll sometimes be wandering around going: "WHERE DO I ^*%R*^# GO NOW!!!" But when you find da temples, you feel like a true. In Skyward Sword, you always know where to go next: (bar the Song of Heroes which is a bit more vague) but the journey to it contains it's own puzzles. It's like going through a slightly simpler dungeon as you make your way to the temple.
The dungeon Ocarina are overwhelming, in a good way and a bad. These will give you massive headaches as you wander through floor and floor of difficuly puzzles, but you're always having fun (maybe not the water temple) Skyward Sword's Temples are much better in design. It's hard to describe, but the temples are much more fun and they've done some major overhauling to the map and layouts, making it near impossible to get lost.

Bossess: Hands down, the bosses in Skyward Sword are much better than the ones in Ocarina of Time. From the super powerful and super charismatic Demon Lord to the monolith of The Imprisoned, the boss battles are some of the best in gaming...sorry, let's make that: THE BEST! People will disagree with me I know, but I love these fights so much that I'm glad a boss run was added into the game. Ocarina's were okay, but most of them are so easy that you can beat them almost effortless.

So gamers: which Zelda game deserves to be called the best of all time? The classic Ocarina of Time? Or the modern Skyward Sword? The main argument for Ocarina of Time would be that it is the most critically acclaimed game ever and that it didn't lose the GOTY position to Skyrim. But truth be told, I don't think that Skyrim deserved the position, but that's a whole other story...

Dammit Terfle

So. you have heard the terfle's thoughts on skyward sword and skyrim. he thought he was stealing. little did he know, that I WANTED HIM TO MAKE A POST LIKE THAT.

terfle talked about travel, items and experience. i will talk about story, combat and characters.
Story
now for my version.

Skyward sword: the story for skyward sword follows the basic zelda formula. "O noes! princess Zelda has been k
idnapped by a creepy middle aged Lincoln wannabe. go and save her!" but this time, its a little different. for starters, link actually has great reason to rescue zelda other than her being royalty. link and Zelda, and i quote from 4ever, have an ob

vious "thing..." going on. they clearly like each other. (you know what i mean here.) secondly, the main enemy of the game, girahim, is not a creepy fat
guy, but a rather... odd character. NOTE: if you were defeated by girahim in your first encounter with him, you have bee
n humiliated. i am s
orry. go fight bobokins and humiliate them to restore your manliness.

Skyrim: you are the dragonborn. your quest is to seek out and defeat the dragons. especially alduin. the big bad IMA KILL U AND EAT UR BA
BBEHS of d
ragons. Skyrim also has a compelling side story, a WAR. in skyrim, dragons take presidence over brothers killing each other... right...
each quest aslo has its own story line, so those ar
e the two main ones.

Combat
skyrim: you can fight with magic, 1 handed or 2 handed weapons in skyrim. magic can be used if your magika bar has enough left in it, 1 handed weapons swing faster than 2 handed, but 2 handed deal WAYYYYY more damage. while th
ere are many weapons and spells to choose from
in skyrim, you have no controll over where you swing your weapon, or fire your spells (and arrows). you can not attack around blocks making enemies with sheild annoying and rather tedious to f
ight.

Skyward sword:

skyward sword does the exact opposite. you only have your items and your sword to fight with, but your control over them is far more realistic. sword combat allows you to attack around blocks, this prevents fights with regular foes from
taking too long, and boss fights far more difficult. you have to read your opponents moves to find the right opportunity to strike. or just swing wildly and hope for a hit.
However, there is always a case of the miss swing. you swing in one direction, but link swings in another.
Characters:

Skyrim.

a lot of the charaters in skyrim are really memorable. Ralof, kudlak whitemane, ulfric stormcloak, and delphine. but the minor characters are easily forgettable. especially the guards. the only reason everyone remembers them is due to a joke that has no place here. why? IT TOOK AN
ARROW IN THE KNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
Also, alduin is one of those villans you grow to hate, but not very much. kind of like ganon... from ocarina of time where he actually does stuff to you.

Skyward sword:
each character in skyward sword has their own unique personality. groose is a try-hard, FLedge is the young guy who needs help... a lot... and then there is girahim...
SWEET
ZOMBIE JEEBUZ. Grahim is by far the easiest tyrant to dislike in any zelda game for the simple reason that he makes a fool of you. Ganon was all like meh, Girahim takes no chances he wants you gone as early as possible.

this has been my comparison.
but my next question to you, who would win in a fight between Girahim, Ganondorf and any other villain that doesn't reappear as much.

Stealin'

Doc said that he would post pros and cons of skyward sword and skyrim. Then he didn't. So, time to steal his idea.

First. Traveling.
Skyward sword: it's okay, with sprint finally added to zelda getting around isn'y much of a hassle, though you do have to get used to stopping sprinting just before you run out. Though i find controlling the lofting a bit awkward and it does take a while to fly somewhere.
Skyrim: The dovahkiin walks at an alright speed though you will find yourself sprinting at all opportunities, just like skyward sword it will drain your stamina, though you can improve your stamina in this game, which you will find helpful because the world of skyrim is ridiculously huge, luckily though you can quicktravel to places you have already been, i don't really like the horses though, the controls are a bit clunky and my horse literally committed suicide, a thousand gold, wasted, and for some unexplained reason they can go almost vertical.

Items.
Skyward sword: items are always useful, whether they be potions, quest items or the awesome things you find in temples, but you have quite a limited selection of things you can carry with you, but you can upgrade your pouch to get more room, if you are full then you can store stuff at the items storage shop in the bazaar, but the checkout girl will hit on you.
Skyrim: there are so many items in this game that your inventory will be filled with crap loads of everything you can imagine, weapons, armor, books, potions, i've even found a human heart. But, a major downside of this is that you have limit to how much you can carry at one time, after you reach that point you will move at an immensely slow speed so that you can just barely move, to have a safe place to store your items you need to buy a house, which you can do at any of the major towns (all are marked on your map at the beginning of the game). The cheapest is whiterun, where it costs 5000 gold and the most expensive is solitude where it costs 25000 gold, but i hear you get a mansion in solitude, opposed to the very small house in whiterun.

Experience
Skyward sword: You do not level up at all in this game, though you do get better swords that do more damage, overall you really have to rely on actually getting better at the game to be more effective.
Skyrim: to level up in skyrim you hve to increase individual stats, you don't get experience from killing enemies, though if you kill them using a bow it will help your archery, with a sword it will improve your one handed and if you use magic it will improve what ever branch of magic you used to kill them. when you level up you get to increase either magic, health or stamina (if you increase stamina you also get higher max carry weight) and you also get a perk.

I'll do more of these when i get back, though ideas for what i should do them on would be helpful.

Party games for the Wii

The best selling games on Wii weren't always the best actual games. Although Twilight Princess and Super Mario sold bundles, the most successful ones were the party games. The words, "Fun for the whole family" really scare me when it comes to games. Normally, party games are garbage. The main technique involved is waggling the Wii-Mote until your hand falls off. Sure, even the bad party games have their moments, but most of them reek of abusive motion control. But, there are a few party games which really get it right. Wii Sports. Simple but fun. It wasn't meant to be amazing, and it isn't but who can deny that it was actually pretty fun the first time you tried it. Golf and boxing were a bit clunky, but there was still fun to be had. Then, it was Wii Sports resort that was actually pretty cool. Most of the games here (especially Sword fighting) were intuitive, dare I say even cool? This is by far the best party game on the system by a longshot. There are other good ones too, like Wii Play, but in most cases the party games suck like nothing else. Like Guinness World Record: The video game, Hasbro family game night (which ruins perfectly fine board games) Circus games, Carnival games and many other ones that deserve to be burnt in the fires of Death Mountain.

4EVER's favourite Zelda games 2

How could I leave this out? The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is by a long-shot, the second best Zelda game of all time. I don't understand why people like Ocarina of Time better than this, Twilight Princess is simply amazing in every aspect. The world of Hyrule feel so natural and large, I loved every second I was in it. The temples were some of the best in the series with some fantastic design and they were much less overwhelming than that Ocarina of Time's, yet still contained the difficulty of the others. The graphics were awesome on Wii and the motion controls actually worked really well. The dark atmosphere, the epic bosses and the wolf form all made this game pretty dang awesome, in fact, this would be my favourite Zelda game, if not for the only only other Zelda game on Wii...
