Super Smash Bros Brawl Item Dissection: Smash Balls

The controversial and exciting item was showcased in many trailers leading up to Brawl, but when it arrived, fans got it all for themselves. If you don't already know, Smash Balls are items which allow players to pull of their "Final Smash" The ball will appear randomly during the battle and float around the stage. Whichever player is the first to break the ball will get it. The character will have a glowing aura around them, and pressing "B" will unleash it. The question I propose today is: are they unfair?
Sure, it's cool being able to pull off moves which can turn the tide of the battle, but each characters smash is different and some are better than others. Who can say that DK's Final Smash is better than Marth's Final Smash? (No, that's not me in the videos) Some characters may also find it easier to get then Smash Ball than others. Meta Knight would have the advantage over somebody like Mr. Game and Watch. 
Personally, I do think that Smash Balls make the match unfair. Point in case: Having a Match against Kirby. He was much higher damage than me, but he was able to get the Smash Ball and win, whereas I didn't use the Smash Ball once.
