This year saw the release of some awesome Nintendo stuff. The main one being the 3DS, which had a poor launch, but is picking up some steam now. For the 3DS, masterpieces like the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of TIme 3D and Lylat Wars 3D came out, taking us back to the age of Nintendo 64. Aside from that, we had some new games to take home like Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land and Super Street Fighter 3D, but not all that many great things aside from that. Coming up though: Kid Icarus Uprising and the next incarnation of the Super Smash Bros Franchise.
This year, the Wii U was announced, causing much controversy amongst gamers. Some hated it, some saw potential and some are just in a wait and see attitude. Next E3 is when they'll be showing it again, so...fingers crossed?
The Wii saw the release of Kirby, Xenoblade Chronicles and above all: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, the best game of all time!
Happy new Year!
You like Nintendo? We love Nintendo!

4EVER's favourite Zelda games 6
Doctor will most certainly rage about this, but The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks is at number 6 on my list. Basically, Spirit Tracks is an add on to Phantom Hourglass where Link is now an engineer in training in a world set "a generation" after Phantom hourglass. Almost everything about this game is done better than Hourglass, from the puzzles and design to the story and characters. For the first time, Zelda was your companion and friend, not just a kid waiting for you to collect some rocks for her. The world of Spirit Tracks is the most engaging of all the Zelda's I've played and thanks to that, the one I've completed the most. I've done everything bar catching some bunnies, but honestly, I think that's forgivable. And no more repeating the Temple of the Ocean King over and over, this time, you can skip all the floors of the Spirit Tower that you've done. However, on the minus side, the train in the game is just plain annoying. It's so slow and so frustrating. In fact, everything bad about the game can be attributed to the train. The graphics, the combat, the slowness. But, all that aside, Spirit Tracks is probably the best game on DS, that and TWEWY.
4EVER's favourite Zelda games 7
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass was the first of two Zelda games to hit the DS, and it hit hard. It had some amazing ideas for controls, puzzles and boss battles, utilising both screens in a unique manner. The sword combat deserves a mention. It's remarkably fun, if simple.
Set after the events of Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass let you explore the open sea as Toon Link once again to save Zelda. While this game has so much going for it, there is one thing that is really frustrating about it which pushes it back. The Temple of the Ocean King. WHYYYYYYYY!?!?!?
For starters, each time you return to it (and you return to it a lot) You have to do everything you did beforehand all over again. Sure, there are a few shortcuts, but seriously! Plus, you have a yippy skippy time limit as well. But Phantom Hourglass does do much right. The temples, the exploring, the ship combat, the boss battles. So good!

4EVER's favourite Zelda games 8
Ima do my list of my 8 favourite zelda games. Your probably wondering, why eight? SHUT UP! DIS BE MAH BLOG< NAWT YAWS!!
At number 8, we have the loveable game: The Legend of Zelda Four Sword (25th anniversary edition) This little game was really fun seeing as it had some fantastic and unique multiplayer (which Terfle and the Doctor really enjoyed) so, if I had so much fun, why number eight? Because, well, with the three of our effort combined, it took a mere 3 hours to beat. That's right. 3. Merely. Hours... While it was a blast to play and had some epic puzzles, boss battles and fights, it was over in three hours. That and single player mode is not fun at all. Tried it, failed to even come close to having fun. That coupled with the fact that it's only local multiplayer makes it one of the most lackluster Zelda titles in the franchise. Still, it is just so much fun to play with friends. I do recommend this, even if you only get it to play multiplayer. (Free though)
Nintendo, me want moar.

Skyward sword: Best wii game of 2011
Well, it was kinda obvious that Skyward sword would win this. We have been waiting for it for 2 years. and may i say, it was well worth the wait.
The Doctor Replays: Pokemon ruby
After 5 years and 6 months, i restarted pokemon ruby. the game that started me on my journey to being a pokemon mastah. Last time i started with sceptile. This time i started with... Sceptile.
So what? Sceptile is beast. THe fastest of the three, by far and with a reasonably high attack.
My team of awesome. Sceptile, Aggron, dusclops, Flygon/Salamence, Walrein and Gardevoir.
Why did i choose these six pokemon? they are all brilliant. Aggron takes hits like a tank, then dishes out punishment. Dusclops and Gardevoir are masters of the ranged attack. Flygon uses speed and attack. Walrein... is the eggman, we are the eggmen, walrein is the walrus. thats how awesome it is.

Bar the poor acting, Ghost Recon online looks pretty amazing on Nintendo's new console:

Super Mario 3D Land Review
Mario games are classics, so when a new one comes along, you want to know, is it really as good as the first time I stepped into the plumbers shoes? Well, Super Mario 3D Land comes along and a blogger reviews it.
3D Land is like a hybrid of two genres. The fast paced, bouncing action of the 2D Mario games and the freedom to move around the environment of the 3D titles. Combining the two makes for some interesting gameplay. Most of the levels are very short, taking about as much time to complete as a 2D Mario level, but each level adds in elements of a 3D Mario title. Things like cannons, bouncy mushrooms and classic moves like the backflip and side jump. It also adds in some new things to the world, like a pair of stationary binoculars which let you see the end level flag, as well as help you search for Toads which drop star coins and a new rolling move, which, personally, I didn't use all that much. Power-ups are back and come in the colourful shapes of the super mushroom, the fire-flower and the propeller suit. New to the series is the boomerang suit, which is like the fire flower, except you throw a boomerang. It's actually really helpful for getting items in hard to reach places. Returning to the series is the Tanooki suit, which turns the plumber into a racoon, letting him do a hover jump and adding an offensive spin attack to his arsenal. On top of this, you get 8 worlds with 5-7 levels to play through, as well as a mystery box that awards coins and items and an item house. Each level has 3 star coins to find, adding some much needed length to your crusade to rescue the princess. In some cases, you actually need to spend star coins to unlock the next level, so I recommend you get every star coins in every level. While every level is a lot of fun, they are both short and easy, making it feel like this Mario game had a little less effort put into it then the other titles. In fact, I beat the main story in six hours. Yeah, six. But afterwards, you get another 8 worlds to romp around in, all of which are harder and longer than the normal ones. I'm glad they were included because they add a lot to this game. In the first special world, you unlock Luigi to use in any level you choose. He and Mario are very different, more so than in their other incounters. Luigi can jump much higher but falls much slower and has awful traction, whereas Mario's jumps are weaker, his control is greater. So, there's no clear advantage for either character. In some cases, you'll wish you had Luigi's jumping prowess and in others, you'll be longing for Mario's control, but overall, they are balanced enough and different enough for it to be worthwhile to use both of them. Beating this game completely took about 15 hours, as opposed to the 55 I've put into Ocarina 3D (partly because my game glitched in the master quest version and I had to start it again) so, if you are looking for the best game on 3DS, you'll find it in Ocarina of Time, but if you need more than one game, Super Mario 3D Land is a must have. It's not the best Mario game, but it's one of the best (beaten by Galaxy 1&2,and New Super Mario Bros Wii) To me, this game feels a little like the Twilight Princess of Mario games. Great, but not different enough to be amazing (except I like Twilight Princess better) Still, the game is fantastic and you must pick it up.

The weirdest side quest ever
Skyward Sword has many many side quests, most of them very strange. But there's one which I think is just plain weird.
If you go to the item storage at Bazaar, you'll talk to Peatrice, the bored shopkeeper. If you come there often, she'll eventually ask: "Huh, you keep coming here are lot. Is it just to see me?" Since I enjoy taking advantage of people's emotions, I gleefully said yes. She didn't take me seriously though. When I came back later, she asked me what I needed to do. I said that I was only here to see her. She didn't have much to say that time, but she was a little embarassed. Now, I know what you're thinking, but no, I'm not a rapist/stalker...much
Anyway, I kept coming back and soon enough, she asked me another question, a little more forward than the previous ones. She asked: "Do you really like me?" I answered in the affirmative. She did a little dance and pretty much jumped out of her skin. I kept coming back to the store over and over again until she started calling me sweetie. I was a little perturbed by my new virtual girlfriend, but I kept at it, until eventually she called me darling. Afterwards at the storage area, she says that she can hold onto anything of yours that you want...right-o then.
The next day, she asks me to come over to her house that when the sun goes down. So, I put on my lucky underwear, washed my mouth out and sprayed some lynx on before heading to her house. Turns out her dad was there. Holy-
He then told me that he thought his daughter had an unwanted admirer and that he wanted me to find the bastard and beat him to dust. I would gladly have done so, but I used my detecting powers to work out he was talking about me, even if he didn't know it. I spoke to Peatrice again. She was overjoyed to see me and asked what I really felt about her. I replied that I liked her. She asked me the same question to make sure I wasn't lying. When she was convinced, she squealed for joy and stated that our love was undying and eternal and that we would go on to get married. Before I could go either: "U mad woman?/ Yes my love, forever and always" she said that she was aware that I was on some epic mission and that I didn't have the time for a relationship, so she said that once I was finished we could finally be together. I left the house knowing that I had accomplished something, I just didn't know what (that and I got 5 crystals)
Boy, Zelda is going to be pretty angry when she gets back...

Legendaries
I've seen this happen in a few games like pokemon for example, legendaries just aren't particularly special, it seems the only thing that sets them apart form other pokemon is that they sometimes have slightly more detail (yet nowhere close to spectrobes detail) and you can only get one. Whats in the picture above is what legendaries should be more like, epic, practically unstoppable. In the mystery dungeon games you defeat heaps of legendaries as a starter pokemon without evolving, it just seems too easy. Admittedly i'm not sure how they would fix this in the game, but still how awesome would it be knowing that you caught a super powerful pokemon that was a massive challenge to get, as opposed to just walking to the top of a mountain and catching a decent pokemon, i mean when i catch a legendary i usually don't really even use him, because the pokemon that i already have in my team are stronger.

Next Super Smash Bros
One of the best selling franchises in gaming, the Super Smash Bros series is coming soon. And you know what that means. FANDOM! There are so few people who dislike the series, even people who hate the Wii still think Brawl is cool. But enough of the Wii, what does the next Smash Bros game have install for the Wii U? Oh yeah, and the 3DS. The game has been confirmed to be cross platform between the Wii U and the 3DS. Cool right? More rumours about the game surface. The biggest two going about are character creation and the name. Apparently, in the new game, you can make your own character. Personally, I don't like the idea, but, whatever, it could be cool. The other rumour is that the name will be Super Smash Bros Universe. Hrrm. After bringing in Sonic the Hedgehog and Solid Snake into the fray, what others can we expect to see from a name like that? But, don't be reaching for your wallet just yet. The developer behind the new smash bros game hasn't even started work on it due to him currently working on Kid Icarus: Uprising. But still, looking forward to it are we?
Why Skyward Sword is the only true Wii game to get motion control right:
After countless minigames and wagglefests released on Nintendo's console, there is finally a game which truly makes motion not only a feature of the game, but the star. After hurting our wrists and shattering bones playing things like Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games and Carnival party, we realised that the motion gaming was pretty annoying and very painful, so when games like Super Mario Galaxy came along and utilised the motion instead of abusing it, we all felt a little better. The first game that really made motion work on the system was another Zelda game: Twilight Princess. Although it was released on Gamecube as well, the motion controls for Twilight Princess were awesome. Aiming was very easy and intuitive and even the menus were made simpler to navigate. And although it might not seem like much, Twilight Princess allowed players to swing their sword while running to cut grass. To many, this won't seem like much of a big deal, but this is actually pretty helpful when it comes to the game. However, the substitution of a button press for a Wii mote shake as a form of attack wasn't really useful or interesting at all. It was Skyward Sword the really made motion work, for the first time ever in a video game. The sword combat is excellent. It's not longer waiting for skulltalas to turn around, instead, you'll have to study and memorise enemy blocking and attacking patterns to defeat even the simplest foe. Using items like the slingshot work almost identically to Twilight Princess, but new items like the beetle could not be done without the new and improved motion controls. Things like flying your Loftwing is made fun and engaging thanks to Nintendo's idea. It took the whole of the Wii's lifespan to get it, but it finally worked. Sure, every now and then, the controls will frustrate you, the bomb controls feel a little weird, but overall I can easily say that motion control is the way of the future for The Legend of Zelda.

LoZ: Four Swords- a Legend of Zelda MULTIPLAYER GAME!
The Other day, the three of us tried a game called Legend of Zelda Four swords. In terms of story, the game appears to be a direct sequal of Minish cap. (Although the game is the 25th anniversary edition. the orininal may have FAR more depth). This is the first Zelda game that we have played to feature Co-Op. not regular multiplayer like that of spirit tracks. ACTUAL CO-OP.
So if you have a 3ds, the game is available on the E-Store. Its free, so go get it.

Nintendo game of the Year
While they didn't release all that many games this year, Nintendo had a great few games which came out. Here are the nominees for the best Nintendo game of 2011:
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
Super Mario 3D Land
Lylat Wars 3D
Mario Kart 7
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Which one deserves to win GOTY? Tell us in the comments.

Mario Kart 7
To be honest, I've never been a huge Mario Kart fan. Sure, I've enjoyed it every time I've played it, but I only own Mario Kart DS. So far, my favourite one it Mario Kart Wii. I liked the graphics a lot and had a lot more fun than with the DS. With Mario Kart 7 for 3DS, I am actually pretty interested . For one, there are a few new features. You can glide at certain points, transforming part of your kart into a hang glider and you can go underwater. As always, there are 16 new tracks and 16 old ones, totalling at 32. The roster however, is a bit smaller than Mario Kart Wii going from about 25 to 17. But the biggest differences to this game are the options to customize the Karts and the ability to drive in 1st person. This a wealth of new features, all of which make the game more tempting. However, the reasons for me not being a huge fan of Mario Kart do pop up whenever I reach for my wallet. I don't know why, but I dislike the feature to be able to give any character any Kart after completing enough of the game. It just eliminates a section of choice. For instance, I liked the start of Mario Kart DS when I was deciding which character to use, but as the game progressed, I could put whoever I wanted in whichever Kart. That just made the game a little dull for me. But Mario Kart 7 has another claim to it which makes me consider. People are saying it's got the best online multiplayer of ANY Nintendo game. Now, if you are a nintendo fan, you will have had to grimace at the generally poor online functions of their consoles. So, what do you think of Mario Kart 7?

Links between Ocarina and Skyward sword
So I beat ganondorf in ocarina yesterday. Woot. while playing, i noticed something. Sheiks harp. then i went to see the skyward sword trailer. Zelda in skyward sword has a harp. THE SAME HARP AS SHEIKS!!!!!!! mere coincidence? I think not.
see? the harps are exactly the same.

Navi vs Midna - Who is the more annoying?
This was bound to happen. Ever since Ocarina of time, Zelda games have had a "helper" character (or at least the 3d ones do) that tells you what you should need to do. for instance, Midna in Twilight Princess and the infamous navi from Ocarina of time. These two chractersBoth play significant roles in their respective games, but one must ask...
Who is the more annoying?
Navi is infamous for her well known catch phrase "Hey! Listen!" Fans of ocarina have suffered many sleepless nights because they cannot get navi's continuous shouts at link out of their heads. Most of the time, navi is used to lock onto enemies. Other than that, she is usless.
OR IS SHE???
when playing ocarina the other day, navi's usual "hey!" came up. However, instead of telling me usless info that i already know, She told me where i needed to go. if i hadn't already known where i was to go, this information would have been incredibly valuable.
midna is by far the more interesting character. Her personality throughout the game goes from being rather controlling to being more kind. Midna does not help you nlock on, but does help you to cross large gaps in wolf form, and to quicktravel around hyrule. This makes traveling much easier.
HOWEVER, Midna tells you where you need to go only once. WHEN YOUR NOT PAYING ATTENTION. For a helper character, she isnt that helpful. the manual that comes with twilight princess says to ask midna for help. I did. all i got was "Link, Hurry! we have to save Zelda!"
tell me something i dont know.
So to sum up
Navi-far more talkative but with useful information
Midna- Cooler than navi... but when it comes to guidance she falls short. (not a joke about her being an imp)

Top 5 Zelda Boss themes- Number 1
At number 1- Malladus beast- Spirit tracks
Maybe im biased towards spirit tracks than any other zelda game. Sure, they are all great, but, especially between the 2 ds zelda games, spirit tracks was that little bit better.
Top 5 Zelda Boss themes- Number 2
At number 2- Dark beast Ganon. The final boss from ocarina of time. How, you may ask, is this only number 2? well, you will see...
Top 5 Zelda Boss themes- Number 3
At number three, i have Blizzeta's battle theme from TP.
dont argue. its awesome.
Top 5 Zelda Boss themes- Number 4
I put this theme at number 4, because of the fact that While Windwaker's Ganondorf was powerful, his boss battle theme was as well, but three other boss themes beat this one
The Doctor's top 5 Legend of Zelda Boss themes
Well, it was bound to happen sooner than later...
(TP Ganondorf fight is not on this list as it is in my top 10, not top 5)
At number 5 we have The Molgera battle theme from windwaker.

Difficulty
Remember when those days of beating a really tough game made you like this?:
Well, those days may be long gone. The default difficulty in games is getting a lot easier in general, which can be a good or a bad thing, depending on where you stand. Remember Ocarina of Time? There was less hand holding, less guidance and less hints dropped along the way. You were basically given a sword and then told to go have an adventure. In something like, Twilight Princess, you were given a sword and then told to go to the next temple. After beating that, you were told where the next temple was and had to go to that. Now, while they're both great games, there is a noticeable difference in the structure of the game, Ocarina's puzzles were harder than Twilight Princess' (in my opinion) and the enemies were more powerful than they were in Twilight Princess. While there are some who distaste the newfound formula, it's actually more engaging to most audiences. In Ocarina of Time, you wandered around the immense Hyrule Field (sometimes on foot, which was very slow) trying desperately to find out where the next Temple was. If you give this to an audience of today, if they aren't receiving stimulus or prompting from the game, then they will get bored because of the lack of stimulus. In Twilight Princess, you always had a vague idea of where to go, therefore, even if you weren't really doing much at the time, you could be comforted by the fact that you wouldn't have to wander around the place for ages and that you would get to the fun soon. This design lead to Twilight Princess being very popular. But, because they added in a more linear design, they took away something grand that Ocarina of Time had. The great feeling of discovery. When you find that temple, you know that it was you who found it, and that just emerges you a little bit more in the world. I do miss that feeling that most games nowadays are missing. Most gamers, or people who would call themselves gamers, wouldn't have that pleasure today, or even like the feeling. Most of the gamers of today are so used to being lead by the nose to the next objective with no breathing room. They expect fast pace action like COD to entertain them with no time for wandering off the track or exploring. When a game comes along that breaks this trend (like Skyward Sword) people will often dismiss it, which is a huge shame. Anyway, the difficulty is a had thing to balance in a game or a game series, but in my opinion, games need to be hard. Some of the levels in DK Country Returns are amazingly hard and the World S levels of Galaxy 2 were at times on par with rage quitting, but beating them was the most amazing feeling. Conquering an easy game is usually unsatisfying, but there is still some fun to be had with it. On the other end of the spectrum from Galaxy 2, there's something like COD which is so easy (in the campaign) that beating it is like...drinking water. Effortless. Make a game too easy and the player loses interest. Make a game to hard, the gamer will most likely rage quit. Personally, harder games are for me.
Skyward Sword Impressions.
This is a quicky. I havne't dived deep enough into the game to fully bring an accurate reflection of the game, but so far, it's been weird. The Wii Motion Plus makes the combat feel really odd. Not in a bad way, but it's just strange seeing what you do translate on screen. But on the map, the pointer lags like hell, but I think that was a design choice. Whatever, I need to play more to fully understand it.

2D vs 3D Mario
Pretty much all of the Mario games have been great. It's almost an inevitability that when Nintendo releases a Mario game, it's going to sell a lot of copies, critics will like it and the players will have a great time. Some don't change the formula much, like New Super Mario for the DS, but others are radically different from their predecessors like Super Mario Galaxy and New Super Mario Bros Wii. The interesting thing is, Mario made his debut as a 2D platforming game, which were very common at the time. Mario however stood out thanks the the fantastic level design and love that Nintendo wove into it. Then, Super Mario 64 came along and people went nuts. This is considered by many to be the greatest game of all time and there are some people who played it when it came out and are still playing it today. It was also the first launch title for the DS. Me? I thought it was OK. Although there have been so many Mario games nowadays, the question has never been asked, which type is better? Most people think: Mario. Jump. Doesn't matter which dimension he's in. But actually, the difference is quite big between the two types of Mario games.
When playing the 2D games, you'll see yourself doing a lot of running and jumping at breakneck speeds. It's much more frantic than the 3D versions. You also have a time limit on every level, which most will not notice, but when you realise that you've been wasting time and the clock is in the double digits, you will freak out as though Bowser had kidnapped Peach. The power ups in the 2D ones don't expire, whereas in 3D, most of them have a time limit. 3D Mario games are more about the the puzzles woven into the 3D landscape and slower, more timing based gameplay. The layout for the levels is also different. For instance, in 2D, the level always stays the same. If you go into the level again, it will be mainly to pick up star coins. In 3D, Mario will go for the stars in the level and, depending on which star you go for, the level will physically change.
So, which do you prefer?
IMMA BACK... AGAIN
Imma back fo rizzle this time (Im so gangsta. Clearly). Well it's true that i actually got back about a week ago, buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut i was watching death note. It's just so good, and now it is finished and i have come back to the blog to do the posts which i have said that i would do.
Legend o' Zelda is great, what isn't made better by some zelda? Answer: Nothing. So. Yes, Wind waker as 4evs hinted i am the only one of the three of us that have actually played wind waker, though i haven't finished, i only just got the master sword. I think i know enough about the game to make a post though. Wind waker is amazing. It surpassed my expectations by far, i thought it would be outdated and i would find it old and annoying but no, 'tis wonderful. Firstly cell shaded graphics and god damn awesome, they look amazing and impress me, very rarely do games that are so old have graphics as great as wind waker's. But the dilemma is i'm not sure whether i like twilight princess' graphics or wind waker's more, they seem too different to compare, but who knows maybe if they made a static console toon link game today maybe that would be enough to outright beat twillight princess but they haven't so i can't decide. Wind waker is definitely my favourite toon link game, it's just great. The game play i have a few issues with however. Sailing, i sail on occasion, a kind of boat called a laser. A laser is pretty much the exact same kind of boat as the one that toon link sails on the game which is why i find a few things strange. For example toon link always sails down wind, never any other way. Sailing down wind in heavy wind is by far the hardest kind of sailing you can do, you have barely any control and can capsize at any moment. Sailing perpendicular to the wind is the fastest and best way of sailing. Also, the map is a bit too huge. At first i liked how big it was and it made me feel like it was more of an adventure but now it's really just a pain to get from one place to the next cause it just takes too damn long. I'm glad they fixed that for phantom hourglass. The sword fighting on the other hand would easily beat every other zelda game if it had twilight princess' sword moves, wind waker combat is awesome the music changes to match your fight so when you strike the enemy the music picks up and it's really really cool. Another thing about the combat which i thought was great is that you can pick up other enemies weapons. If you knock an enemy down (like in twilight princess) then they drop their weapon. At first you can pick up the sticks that the enemies hold but as you get further through the game you get way cooler things from telescopes to spears to this giant broad sword which is not only longer than link himself, but the first time you see the enemy who holds it, he's a mini boss, that's how good the broad swords are. While holding the weapon you can either drop it, slash it or throw it, i usually just retreat then throw it at them as throwing a giant broadsword just owns everything around you Unfortunately you can't take these into other rooms. I keep finding myself wishing that i had the mortal draw (best sword move of all time) but sadly no. Since wind waker doesn't have the sword moves in my opinion it ties with twilight princess. I'm not sure whether i like wind waker better than twilight princess overall, i'll finish the game then i'll see.

Wind Waker vs Twilight Princess
As you may have guessed, the topic for this month is Zelda, so here's a debate which can get some trash talking going. Skyward Sword's graphical style is a mixture of the whimsical cartoon, cell shaded theme of Wind Waker and the realistic, darker toned Twilight Princess, so let's take a look at the graphics. (I think Terfle should make another post about this, since he is probably the most knowledgable about Wind Waker)
The GameCube was not the strongest console on the block, so instead of opting for a realistic style of graphics, they went for a cartoony style, which many fans hated when they saw their first glance. Luckily, they were shut up when the actually played the game. It was kind of cool seeing Link as a kid again, only this time, with cat eyes. Even with the graphics, it was (and still is) gorgeous.
The Twilight Princess Graphics were much more focused on realism, trying to match the darker graphics to the darker story. However, while the graphics were still cool as anything, if you looked very closely, you could see that some of the attention to detail had been skipped over and that the textures weren't as smooth as they looked in the distance. Still, many believed that the Twilight Princess graphics were superior to that of Wind Waker's
The Gameplay for both of these games was very similar. Travelling around however, was done by boat in Wind Waker. This annoyed many a fan because it took forever to get anywhere. Twilight Princess had Link's trusty stead Epona as a means of transport that was much, much faster. As for the rest of the gameplay, it was very similar. You search about in dungeons, solving brilliant puzzles and finding new items. When you aren't doing that, you're searching about the overworld for heart containers and extra unlocks, playing minigames and shopping. For the more subtle differences, you will have to read Terfle's next post.
(Psst. Terfle, that's your cue!)

Majora's Mask 3DS
I know, I know, this is another post by 4EVER, but the Doctor is busy and Terfle is...
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask was another hit on the N64, the sequel to Ocarina of Time. However, it didn't have the same success with fans or critics as Ocarina (despite being regarded very highly) the main reason being the time limit on the whole game. Yep. The clock pressured people into finishing the game quickly and rushing, not the happiest environment to play. Nevertheless, it is still masterful. Many 3DS owners are begging for the release of Majora's Mask on Nintendo's handheld, but to no avail. However, something interesting popped up. In an interview with one of the Nintendo team, the source said that the idea was definitely considered. Then, without going on to say anything more, he said that it wouldn't feel right to have two remakes back to back and that Ninty wanted to release a new Zelda game before Majora's Mask. On the plus side, there will be a new and original Zelda game to appear on the 3DS as well as the big chance of the Majora's Mask remake. The downside being it wasn't officially confirmed. Still, chances are looking high.

Quickscoping
Something that has plagued many games makes and unfortunate appearance in GoldenEye 007. Quickscoping. For those of you who don't know what is it, check the video in the comments.
Basically, in GoldenEye, the sniper rifle is a tool that is used far too often for cheap kills. Some may say skill. Some may say it's pure garbage.

Metroid Prime Review
Back in 2002, the idea was born. The idea to turn the much loved franchise of Metroid into a first person game. Released way back on the Nintendo Gamecube, Metroid Prime was loved by many fans and critics. Now, in 2011, how does it hold up?
Metroid Prime looks stunning. Even without HD graphics, the art direction and design make the Alien world of Tallon IV look like a living breathing planet. Not even alien set games like Halo manage to achieve this. The sound it also perfect for the locals. While the music isn't memorable like Zelda, it helps set the mood. You play as Samus Aran, Nintendo's famed space bounty hunter (she doesn't hunt space...but, you get the idea) You will arrive on Tallon IV in search of a mysterious, yet familiar beast that seemingly was behind part of the destruction of Frigate Orpheon. Upon arriving on Tallon IV, the storytelling ceases and you have to begin working it out for yourself. You'll do this by scanning various Chozo scripts and that of the Space Pirates. Be warned though, you will be doing a lot of scanning. But, without spoiling too much, the planet Tallon IV was once inhabited by the Chozo, until a meteor hit the planet. Riding on the meteor is this substance called Phazon, which has strange effects on the world and the inhabitants. The Space Pirates want to weaponize it, therefore creating some pretty freaky stuff in the process. And guess who's job it is to stop them!
The gameplay of Metroid Prime revolves around traversing the world in search of suit upgrades, things to scan, Artifacts and of course, the source of the Phazon. While it may be marketed as a first person shooter, this is closer to a first person adventure game that anything else. The greatness of Metroid Prime comes from comes from exploring the world and finding new ways to get about. There are some enemies which can only be fought in a certain way which means you have pretty interesting and varied gameplay. There is one function in Prime which people will either love or hate. Backtracking. After obtaining new upgrades, you can go back and get upgrades which you weren't able to get before. Me? I was okay with it. It did mean that the upgrades you get can be limited if you wish to plough the game, making it harder. I love the gameplay though, it's so hypnotically engrossing. However, it does have flaws. For instance, it takes AGES to get around ANYWHERE! If there was a fast travel system, the game would be SO much better, even if it is already amazing. There is one other problem. Prime has a lack of direction. The only time I didn't enjoy the game was when I spent 40 mins walking around mindlessly doing nothing. Eventually, I had to resort to doing something I hated: using a walkthrough. Sometimes, you just won't know where to go at all, and you'll have to wait for ages for a hint to pop up, and even the you'll have to do a lot of walking to the place. ARRGGH! So, if anyone uses a walkthrough, don't judge. Please. However, the feeling of getting a new suit upgrade is more than worth all this unnecessary travelling. The only other problem I have is that the game doesn't tell you which doors are save stations. One time, I went into a room with two doors. I decided to go one way. I was killed and had to spend another 10 minutes walking to get to the room again. I went through the other door and, turns out, it was a save station. That's another thing. save stations. Every time you die, you return to the last one you saved at. This is a feature that comes with age. In fact, a lot of the problems I had with the game can be attributed to age. Back in 2002, this game's flaws would have gone unnoticed, but now, I can't help but notice. But either way, this is a truly masterful game. Despite the flaws, like the fact that you have to start gain if you beat the game (I am going to play it again though!) it's a magical experience that is almost indescribable.

Wii U can eliminate screen-cheating.
Think about it. Not many people actually play local multiplayer anymore thanks to online deathmatches, but it's a thing that I'm looking forward to at least.
Metroid Prime so far...
The first of the trilogy, Metroid Prime sees you playing as Nintendo's famous bounty hunter, Samus Aran as you platform, blast, navigate and scan your way through the remote alien world on Tallon IV. As you progress through the game, you'll be searching for suit upgrades, scanning enemies to record them in the logbook and solving some pretty tricky puzzles. A lot of your time will be spent walking, and I mean, a lot of your time, and I mean, A LOT of your time, and I mean, A HUGE FREAKIN' LOT of your time will be spent walking. However, when you aren't walking, there is a lot of great fun to be had. Walking into a new area in the game is just fantastic. You go around and try to find everything, every little secret so that you don't miss out on anything. Discovering new places is by far the best feeling you get from this game. There are some amazing battles to be had with some of the Space Pirates and Tallon IV's phazon affected inhabitants. There are also some pretty cool boss fights although, the most recent one I had was a huge jump in difficulty for the game. I almost beat the last boss with my eyes closed, but this one was completely different, almost entirely cheap. But once I figured out how to beat him, the battle stopped being frustrating and became fun. I will cover more of Prime in the review, but for now, you'll have to wait. I will say that this game is for the patient gamer. With the genre of FPS littered with the unfortunate success of Call of Duty, not many people would find Prime interesting. But for the true gamer, Prime can be a great experience.

Super Smash Bros Brawl Character Dissection: Pit
Pit makes his first appearance in a Smash Bros game with some unique talents...sort of. Many consider Pit to be a very noobish character thanks to his six jumps, plus the second best recovery move in the game, a spammy projectile, a spammy "B" move and of course, his reflector shield.
Pit is a high fling character with a very, very low chance of self destructing, so use that to your advantage. If you think you can jump off the stage to beat away a foe attempting to recover, do it. Pit attacks fast without letup, so he keep the pressure on. Be warned though, Pit can be sent flying easily because of his light weight and the fact that he's wearing a skirt.
PIt's Standar "B" will make him fire an arrow which can be directed from the bow, and even later during mid flight. This is considered to be a highly spammy move by many. The only thing that could make this move even more spammy is if it was fast to fire.
His side "B" make Pit go "Hiyeyaya" and spin his weapons in a circle outward in front of him. This will catch enemies in a hard to escape, hard to evade attack. Guess what? It also reflects projectiles.
Up "B", simply put, he flies. Cheap, yes I know. Down "B"is a reflector shield that bounces projectiles back at their user.
Basically, that's Pit. Sorry for the abrupt nature of this post, but I have work to do.

The Conduit- a very interesting FPS for wii
Yesterday, I rented a game (dont comment on that) called The Conduit. Its your basic Sci-fi FPS game. Aliens are invading! GO KILL THEM! Thats all well and good, but this game does not take place in the distant future, like Crysis or Halo. Anyway, The game came out back in 2009, after Halo 3, but before 007 Goldeneye. People were awestruck. This game did things for the wii that no other FPS before it had. IT WORKED. it wasn't a game that was given a "wii version," its a wii exclusive. I think. Not only were the controls sensible, the graphics were too. This game had graphics to rival that of 007 Goldeneye. So yeah, if your looking for a sci-fi shooter and dont feel like Crysis, or HALO, try this out *note, there is no multiplayer info here because i cant find a match. maybe because the sequal has come out...)
** its a traditional FPS- Shoot anything that moves. Metroid is more Puzzle based, this is BLOW STUFF UP based.
